Living in Gungahlin or Tuggeranong?

Those living in Gungahlin play at Majura Tennis Club (Dickson). This Tennis Canberra Club is Gungahlin’s closest coaching service providers.   Majura Tennis Club offers junior group sessions on Monday, Thursday & Saturday for the North Canberra and Gungahlin region.

In the 1990s & early 2000s Tuggeranong was the powerhouse of tennis in the Capital. With the closure of Tuggeranong Tennis Centre, tennis has been on a steady decline. Until now…  Right in the heart of Tuggeranong, the Active Leisure Centre in Erindale holds junior lessons every Friday!

Does your kids go to any of these schools?

Turner Primary, Telopea Park & North Ainslie Primary have been lucky enough to participate in an after-school walk-to-tennis initiative.  This has helped so many parents and many parents cannot bring their kids to tennis right after school.  At the moment these are the only schools running this program however, with the success of the afternoon walk to the courts our team is looking for more options to get the kids from school to the courts.

The Wanniassa Hills Primary School student only started playing tennis 12 months ago after seeing photos of his grandfather playing and being inspired to get on the court.

“I started playing because of my grandpa. He played tennis and it looked really fun, so I gave it a go,” Turner said.

“When my mum told me I was nominated it was the happiest day of my life. I thought I had won the lottery or something.”

Thanks to our Kiwi Tennis Coach Tom Sizeland

The Tennis Canberra community is extremely lucky to have many coaches and we appreciate both – coaches who work 8 hours a day and coaches that help out when we need them.  Tom Sizeland was inducted into the Tennis Canberra coaching team this year and we were lucky to have him.

From a junior Kiwi tennis player to a recent US College Tennis Graduate, Tom is down in Canberra studying to become a doctor at the Australian National University.  Tom is currently preparing to take on the medical exams for the next 6 weeks, which means that he will not be on court coaching for the rest of 2018.  We do wish him all the best and, hopefully, with these tough exams out of the way he will be back in action in 2019.
